A 35-year-old woman died by suicide in Jaipur following a verbal spat with her husband after he reached home late on Karwa Chauth. Disturbed by his wife’s extreme step, the man later also died by hanging himself with her saree.
According to the police, the incident happened on October 20 in the city’s Harmada area, where the woman, Monika, argued with her husband, Ghanshyam Bunkar (38), when he reached home late on Karwa Chauth.
After the argument, Bunkar tried to persuade Monika, but she left the home and died by suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train. Disturbed by the death of his wife, Bunkar returned to the home and also died by suicide by hanging himself with his wife’s saree, police said.
Before taking the extreme step, Bunkar sent a WhatsApp message to his elder brother writing, “Brother, I lost, sorry. Talk to Ganpat Ji and Ghanshyam Kandel, they will help you. Now you have to work on my ID… My wife jumped in front a train.”
Speaking about the incident, an official of the Jaipur Police said, “Ghanshyam, who worked for a network marketing company, had arrived home late on Karwa Chauth, leading to an argument between him and his wife, following which they died by suicide.”
A case has been registered by the police after the incident and a probe has been launched.
Earlier this month, an elderly couple allegedly died by suicide in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district, accusing their sons and daughters-in-law of harassment over property disputes.
In the suicide note found pasted on the walls throughout their home, the man accused his sons, daughters-in-law and other relatives of harassment over property matters.
The bodies of the couple, identified as Hazariram Bishnoi (70), and his 68-year-old wife Chawali Devi, were recovered from a water tank inside their home in Nagaur’s Karni Colony.
A case has been filed in connection with the matter and further investigation is underway.
